Sonic Summer Pudding were formed in Brighton in 2016. A sumptuous melodic confection of Rickenbackers, flute, mellotron and groovy rhythm section drawing influences from mid-late ’60’s psychedelic pop.
Luminaries such as Barrett era Floyd, Village Green Kinks, the moustachioed Beatles, Immediate Small Faces, Smiley Beach Boys, Post-Crimson McDonald and Giles, and early Traffic, Family and Blossom Toes, are all present and correct in spirit and form.
Mark Richardson (vocals, guitar and mellotron) writes the music, Lucy Finchett-Maddock (flute) produces atmospheric counterpoint, while Simon Young (bass) and Nick Flowers (drums and percussion) groove away convincingly underneath.
Definitely a band for those who like their pop paisley, and steeped in a rich melodic tradition. Bon appetite.
